Our partners Glia over in Canada have completed an Our partners Glia over in Canada have completed an astounding project and raised money to donate over 50 3D printed stethoscopes to Makerere University in Uganda! This is a follow up project following the huge success of Steth of Hope in 2021. Many students in low and middle income countries cannot afford their own stethoscope, a vital tool in the development of your clinical skills as a doctor. We look forward to updating you when the stethoscopes are received by the medical students!
Female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) affects 56 mi Female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) affects 56 million women and girls across Africa and can lead to infertility, cancer and increase risk of HIV acquisition. Effective treatment exists, in the form of praziquantel. Despite this, awareness of the condition amongst the population and healthcare workers is very low and so symptoms are often misdiagnosed as a STI. Our next project, in collaboration with Unlimit Health and the Ministry of Health, will aim to incorporate education, prevention, monitoring and treatment for FGS into the health service in Soubré district, Côte d’Ivoire.  Following a successful pilot in 2021, we are certain this project will yield positive outcomes and be expanded across further districts to allow 31,000 adolescents and young women at risk gain access to FGS prevention and treatment.
Make a Medic started as a textbook donation initia Make a Medic started as a textbook donation initiative.

In 2019, we ran a pub quiz, raised a little money, collected some used textbooks from recent Imperial graduates and sent them to the Faculty of Medicine at Wayamba University, Sri Lanka. 🛫

As we had accumulated quite a few more textbooks over the ensuing years, we decided to send a second package containing around 300 medical textbooks to Afe Babelola Medical School, Nigeria.

Textbooks are relatively affordable and accessible for students in the UK as many of them are published here. For medical students in other parts of the world, these valuable resources are hard to come by and often carry high import costs. 💰

Our textbooks have bolstered the medical library at Afe Babelola Medical School and we hope they will help the students develop their knowledge and their confidence as they take steps towards becoming qualified doctors! 💉 💊
